During my time in the Interventional Radiology department at Washington University in St. Louis, I worked under Dr. Sasha and leading specialists including Dr. Mani, Dr. Atta, Dr. Azhar, Dr. Kim, and Dr. Berry-Tony. I gained hands-on experience with CT-guided biopsies, CVC and PICC line placements, angioplasties, and IVC filter placements. I also closely observed uterine artery embolization, GI bleeding embolization, sclerotherapy, radiofrequency and microwave ablation, percutaneous drainage procedures, and Y-90 radioembolization.
Under the supervision of Chief of IR Dr. Mark A. Westcott, Dr. Kirk, and Dr. Art, I observed Y-90 radioembolization, prostate artery embolization, uterine artery embolization, fluoroscopic-guided biopsies, and thrombectomies. I also gained experience in patient consultations, pre- and post-procedure care, and imaging techniques including fluoroscopy and ultrasound guidance.
Dr. Mirza's lab focuses on immune impairments in type-2 diabetes and their impact on pneumococcal infections, with the goal of developing more targeted vaccines for this high-risk population. I gained hands-on experience in immunology and bacterial pathogenesis, learned advanced lab techniques, and contributed to research with public health implications.
Collaborated with colleagues on several TB projects including awareness campaigns and innovative ideas to help the Government and people of Pakistan fight tuberculosis.
Served as LEO for the Standing Committee on Professional Exchange. Responsibilities included communicating with representatives from other medical schools nationwide and facilitating clinical exchange programs. Participated in monthly Free Eye Camps and contributed to the medical awareness newsletter on public health topics.
Fostered a collaborative environment promoting learning and skill development among aspiring surgeons. Contributed leadership and organizational skills to advance the interest group and create impactful experiences for members.
Volunteered to raise funds for flood-affected communities during Pakistan's 2022 flooding. Organized a university booth and fundraising event whose proceeds were donated to Al-Khidmat Foundation.
Represented the hospital at events to promote cancer awareness. Organized awareness campaigns and fundraising initiatives, provided guidance to cancer patients and families, and developed communication and leadership skills through diverse community engagement.
Founded and manage a digital medical education platform focused on simplifying radiology and clinical concepts for medical students and USMLE preparation.
